Good luck on the new venture Phil. Sure there is a big gap to be filled in these areas. Cheers, Ian

Profile Information

Main areas of Materials Interest
Spreading the word on the effective use of materials
I've been involved with AZoM.com since it started in April 2000.

My main materials interests these days revolve around helping materials related companies market themselves more effectively across the web.

Prior to being involved with AZoM.com, I was the CEO of Dynamic-Ceramic Limited a UK producer of Advanced Ceramics - zirconias and aluminas primarily.

Many years ago, I was a teaching company associate with Leeds University, helping to transfer advanced ceramic manufacturing technology into industry.

In the publications arena I was the editor of Ceramic Technology International for a number of years and have published papers mainly relating to my Ph.D. interests, tribology and the manufacture of TZP Zirconia ceramics.

So if I write on your wall who sees that?

"So, if I write on your wall, does that mean just you see it, or is it just my friends, or is it my friends your friends and their friends?"

The above snippet of conversation between mother goose and 16 year old daughter will either make immediate sense to you or be in the same category as "going on holiday in a caravan with your mother in law" i.e. totally incomprehensible.

If it makes no sense then you are obviously not a Facebooker as it refers to who can see what you have po

Unfortunately, the first law of thermodynamics always comes back to bite you. It's not possible to get more out than you put in because, unlike the Securities and Exchange Commission, on this planet, friction always does its job to work aga

High Strength Alumina Matrix Composite released by Morgan Technical Ceramics

Looks like a significant step forward in the Alumina Bioceramics area by Morgan.

"Morgan Technical Ceramics has developed a new bioceramic material for surgical implant devices. Vitox AMC is an alumina matrix composite material which can withstand high shock without fracture and exhibits exceptionally low wear rates compared to alumina, metal or polyethylene alternatives. As a result it is ideal for less invasive surgeries, thereby reducing patient trauma and improving post operation recoverContinue

The GFC moves from Wall Street to Materials Street - Bayer and Hydro feel the pain

Recent financials from Polymeric and Metallic bellwethers, Bayer and Hydro are not pretty.

According to Bayer Chairman, Werner Wenning, "....the slump business at Material Science also left a distinct mark on sales and earnings of the Bayer group".

Hydro, the aluminium group made a similarly downbeat comment in their Q1 2009 report, "The results reflect the deepening global economic downturn, with historically low aluminium prices and a further fall in already weak downstream markets."

Small Medium Business in USA to increase online Ad and Related Technology Spend

A recent report has found that Small Medium Businesses (SMB's) in the USA are now moving away from traditional Yellow Pages type spending to spend 11% of their advertising dollars online, up from 4% three years ago.

The report also indicates a significant increase in spending on related "online" services such as website activities, technology related marketing and search engine optimisation. The expenditure on such ac… Continue
